Dear BDTEN:
There's a burgeoning grass-roots effort afoot to make May 16 a day to
remember for those of us in Tompkins Co. eager to make our community more
bike-friendly.
May 16 is National Bike to Work Day. Several routes around Tompkins County
have been set up to celebrate the day. Lots of people are on board. Some
routes will include leaders of Ithaca schools, government, music groups,
and business.
Read all about it at: FLcycling.org/info/btwd2008/
BDTEN urges our members to get involved--because the more attention biking
gets, the more likely we'll get biking trails like the BDT.
For example, just to get the wheels rolling from the Town of Ulysses, I'll
suggest that a group of us who are used to riding on Rte. 89 meet at the
Perry City Rd./Rte. 89 intersection at 8:00 a.m. and ride to DeWitt Park
together.
Of course, those with mountain bikes could take the Black Diamond Trail
from Glenwood Heights Rd. south. The rest of us without trail-worthy tires
can dream of the BDT while we ride on the shoulder of Taughannock Blvd.
What do you say? Join me at 8:00 a.m., or suggest your preferred time and
a meeting place, and I'll circulate the options via this BDTEN listserv.
In addition, once points and times are established, the details will
appear on the Finger Lakes Cycling website: FLcycling.org/info/btwd2008.
Jan
