[BHV] Race Team

I will reply positively, although I don't know if there is much
demand for a nearly fifty-nine year old who historically always gets
left in the dust on the first climb (even when he was a mere 40 year
old). The prospect of being on a team, and maybe in a position now
and then to help others on the team win races or place high does
offer some incentive. Maybe this is what I need to make good on my
goal to drop 15 to 20# over the winter so I've got a prayer of
getting to the top of the first hill with the main group. Anorexia
here I come. I'll try to make it a spiritual disorder, not merely a
physical one, by doing most of my fasting during advent and lent.

Any interest in forming a race team?

I know that many of you raced in the local races this past year. I
absolutely enjoyed the three races I did and would like to do more
next year.

Some people train so they can race; I raced so I could train, so the
all-important workout didn't get shoved to the back burner so
easily. Nothing inspires like knowing you're going to get your butt
kicked in the next race if you don't train. The fact that I get my
butt kicked anyway is completely beside the point. I wanted to float
the idea of forming a race team so that we can all do better.

Bicycle racing is definetly a team sport where team tactics and
cooperation are often deciding factors in the outcome of a race. As
a team we can work to set up a teammate for a break away or a strong
sprint finish, or even block or disrupt the efforts of a rival team.
A team will also help us by organizing group training rides, refining
skills, learning strategy and tactics, and aid in the logistics and
cost of getting to races.

I have worked on making a race schedule of local races for next year
and I'll send it to anyone who is interested. I even talked to a
potential sponsor who may have some interest in seeing us clothed in
some classic retro Jerseys. The Union Jack is back! Our mountan bike
chairmen Steve says he'll help organize the mtb part of the race team.

Next year begins now

Bobby
