LOL, nice column Bill, nice.

This just out:
Disgraced former president of Big Horn Velo admits shortcutting
Thursday fast ride, prays for forgiveness.
At a post ride press conference veteran rider Bill Lodico confessed
that, despite prior denials, he had indeed shortcutted the Thursday
night ride, back-tracking on County Route 60 once he lost the
latecomers chase group as they steadily and determinedly closed the
gap on the main group.
There he met up with Mark Sheehan, who, Lodico says, suggested the
shortcut up CR 2 and then Hoffman Hollow. "It's all Mark's fault,"
Lodico said. "It never would have occurred to me to do such a thing
-- I'm too much of a sportsman -- except for Mark's bad influence.
He said, 'Listen. We'll wait for the lead group at the top of
Hoffman Hollow, and then we'll just tell them they didn't see us
when we went by them. They'll be so fried from their effort to stay
away from the B group and climbing the Hogback, they'll believe us.'
What else could I do. If cheating's the norm in the peloton, then
you've pretty much got to cheat if you want to be a winner. If
nobody cheated, then I wouldn't cheat."
Sheehan's response to Lodico's accusation: "What a whiner. I didn't
cheat. I'm not the one who made the big effort to grab their wheels
on the way down Hoffman Hollow for the easy, quick ride home. That's
the first defense of everyone caught cheating: blame your bad
behavior on someone else."
One member of the lead group, George Hluck, mentioned: "At first I
thought I had just been struck by a spell of exertion-induced
blindness and not seen Lodico fly by me on Wyncoop Creek. Then as we
were climbing up to the top of Hoffman Hollow, he said something
about two ways to get ahead in the world: work really hard or
cheat. I didn't really understand what he was talking about. I
guess I do now."
Lodico promised to turn over a new leaf: "I love the sport too much
not to be ashamed. Years of clean riding, and then something like
this in a moment of weakness. I'm ashamed and very sorry about it,
and can only beg forgiveness and a second chance of all those who've
supported me and been my friends in cycling over the years. I hope
to set a good example in the future, especially to all the young
riders out there. Here's my message: it doesn't matter if you've
got to finish the ride miserable and alone. Just don't shortcut!
Look what happened to me!
"I guess the one consolation I have as I try to dig myself out of the
hole of my disgrace is that I got into the hole by being disqualified
the old fashioned way, the way everyone's pretty much forgotten
about, taking a short cut. Let that be a lesson to all of you out
there: the complicated, expensive, dangerous way -- an elaborate
doping scheme, and then getting caught at it -- isn't the only way to
get thrown out on your a**. You can just sort of fall into it the
way I did, the easy way, by just making a couple wrong turns that
happen to work out to your advantage."
