To all,

Here are some quick notes from the Swandrome Cyclocross race this
past Sunday.

The BHV group was represented by Bobby, Steve, and myself.

Based on last week's attendance this race had a wave start. Open
started first, followed by masters, then women. The course appeared
to have more elevation changes than last week's course at Buck Hill.
There were two dismount areas, one single and one double. The course
was a little bit of gravel road, grass, and forest trails. There was
some mud, but nothing outrageous.

My equipment held up well. I set my tire pressure to 50 psi and that
seemed to work OK. I think I am getting better at the dismounts and
fast mounts, but tend to get sloppy when breathing really hard :)
Midway through the race I was feeling a little fatigued so I backed
off a little, but then felt better for a stronger last lap. The
interesting thing I noted was that running dismounted does fatigue
you, and that staying on the bike as long as possible is good. I come
from a strong running background, but did not find that to be much of
an advantage. I also felt more comfortable taking the turns faster
when possible, but watch out for the rock or root that can make you
fishtail.

Had a mid-pack finish (14/27), but would like to do a little better
next time.

In sum, yet another fun race. I encourage those who have not tried
this to give it a shot. You don't need a cyclocross bike - MTB
without bar ends is OK.

I'll miss next week's race at Ommegang since I will be running the
Army Ten Miler. Good luck to those who go (and have a beer for me).

george
