Hell BHV'ers,
Jeff and I just finished the Yuasa Crit down near Reading and had quite a eye opening experience. The race was on very nice roads, with wide, well-swept corners, so overall, a spectacular course. We started out at 8:30 with a Category 4 race which had about 40-45 riders. As it turned out, the race was the championship for the PA Best All Around Rider competition, so some of the best bike racers in the state were on the line. They definitely made their presence felt throughout the first 10 laps of the race as the pace was wicked fast. Jeff hung in the front like a champ, but I had a bad race, struggling to stay on the back of the pack. Eventually, I dropped out as I just was working too hard by myself. Jeff rode strong the rest of the race and ended up finishing in 11th place, outsprinting a few extra guys at the end.
About an hour or so later, we tried our hand at a 3/4 race, which turned out to be even tougher than the first race. The pace was just unbelievably fast, and though I held on for about 5 laps, I ended up falling back into a chase group that was eventually pulled from the race about halfway through. Jeff was also pulled from the race around the same time.
The race, although it was disappointing for me as I didn't finish either race, was a real eye opening experience of how many tough riders are out there. I would definitely recommend this race for our race team to do next year. The level of competition was worth the trip!
Brian
