Amazing how we can all have so many different things we want to gain from
cycling and all work together to achieve these goals. Also how these goals change
as the season wheres on. I started the season looking to learn how to road
race and use this to be a better MTB racer, I have totally changed my focus to
the road scene and almost lost interest in the mountain scene. Somehow I
managed to win as a cat 5 and become somewhat competitive as a cat 4. After the
Thater I was exstatic with my race, not because I finished 33rd but because I had
finished with the lead pack. Then we went to the right from the start
criterium and I did better than I would have ever imagined with an 11th place finish
in the cat 4 race and stayed close enough to the front to have actually won if
the cards played out a little different. When we rode the cat 3/4 race I was a
little overwhelmed with the pace but after thinking about it it was not
totally out of reach to set this level of competition for a goal. I have set one
goal for myself for 08 and plan to work until I achieve it. That is to win a cat
4 criterium. In my mind I am 100% sure I can do it and all I have to do is
prepare the way I know I have to.
Next season is going to be alot of fun as Im starting to think our team
is getting strong enough to actually make some team tactics work. Brian and I
saw this play out in Reading and what it takes is 4 or 5 guys to be able to get
to the front at the end of the race. We"re not that far away. Im already
starting to look forward to spring and this season has only been over for 3 days.
I cant wait for the Cris Thater Memorial in 08.
Jeff
