Oh baby this is gonna be good !
Today we test rode a dirt section and I must say it's in excellent
condition. Super smooth hard packed dirt, car tire tracks with no stone at
all, no washouts, some small potholes but nothing serious.
So, while I'm piloting the tandem around a big black butterfly who's landed
in a sunny spot, flapping his wings, a huuuge heron flies low over us from
behind, as big as a B52 it seemed ! And if that wasn't cool enough, all the
while Deb was chatting about two kinds of ice cream she's gonna make for the
post ride feast. One we've called White Line Fever, a silky smooth vanilla
that you wish would go on forever. The other she's calling Pave' to
celebrate the dirt sections of the route. If you've never had Deb's homemade
ice cream, you're in for a treat. In fact, just the other day an elderly
fella came up to the counter at the Gristmill and asked who made the ice
cream. When Deb was pointed out he looked her straight in the eye and asked
her to marry him ! It's that good !
I forgot to mention earlier that it's byob, the "b" being bike, or bottle,
or bride, or whatever you might have that starts with "b"
Also, the Gristmill closes at 3 on Saturdays. For those non riding folks,
they're welcome to hang around on the porch until we're back, or if I were
me, I'd be down the road checking out a few wineries ! I figure we'll be
done riding around 7:00.
below is the previous info for those who might just be receiving this email
Deb and I are planning a sweet 40 mile ride on Aug 9th, a
saturday at 4:30 pm.
It'll start and finish in Burdett at Deb's place, the Gristmill
Cafe.
We've linked together the tastiest sections of her favorite cycling routes.
Imagine if you will, rural rolling scenery, moderate climbing, roads with
almost no
traffic, scenic vistas, forrest roads, farms, vineyards, and a spectacular,
top of the world finish with a thrilling descent back to Burdett ! All at
pace that lends to joking and the telling of tall tales This is one of my
all time favorite routes, ever, anywhere ! And, of course the only way to
cap off an epic ride is with a delicious meal.
This is free event, not a commercial venture, it's a full blown fun time for
all of us to get together and enjoy a few miles, tip a glass, and spin a
fork. Open to all, riders and non riders alike.
Aug 9th, 4:30 pm at the Gristmill Cafe
