I see where BHV members do not let the calendar dictate their riding habits.
BUT, THINK ahead to summer and plan a nice Tour.
Description, application form for the STBC's 28th Annual GFLBT , June 6-8, 2008
can now be found on the STBC, Inc website: www.southernteirbicycleclub.org
Give it an early look and consider. Spred the word.
Details still being worked on, but the format will follow previous events. Tour
route master Bill Armstrong is working on the following:
Saturday's Rides
90 Mile -- Crooked Lake Crooked Loop 64 Mile -- Keuka Lake Overlook Metric
100 50 Mile -- Augie's Ambling Adventure
The 90 mile ride loops around Keuka Lake, with excursions along Lamoka
Lake, through Hammonsport, Branchport, and Penn Yan before returning to
Hidden Valley Group Camp. A (95% correct) detailed map outline may be seen
at http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=2633. The ride is
the longest distance provided in many years, and includes some serious climbs,
but some of the scenic views are ample reward for the climbing effort. Even the
road names suggest this: Birdseye Hollow Road runs along the side of Mt
Washington. Along another part of the route there is an "aerial view" of Lamoka
Lake so striking that Bill forgot to take the shortcuts along the long loop that
results in the 64 and 50 mile routes for less ambitious riders. The 50 mile route
will be Augie's Ambling Adventure. These two routes have one climb that will
challenge, just before the designated winery stop. All three routes include new
paths between familiar waypoints, and offer a fresh perspective of the Finger
Lakes Region.
Bill has made arrangements with two wineries for wine pickups. The 90
milers are invited to the Pleasant Valley Wine/Great Western Winery in
Hammondsport. Their offer is $2 for wine tasting and a 10% discount on any
bottles of wine. The two shorter rides pass by the Keuka Overlook Wine Cellars.
The owner agreed to the pickup process, and said he typically does this a couple
times a year.
Sunday's Rides
There has been a lot of pressure to make the greatly enjoyed Keuka Lake
Loop & Bluff Point route the GFLBT standard for the Sunday ride, so that's the
way it will be. The definition is the 44 mile / 57 mile routes used in 2007.
