FLCC> NYS Cyclocross Championship

The NYS cyclocross championships were held 
yesterday in Delmar  near Albany under cloudy and 
cool conditions.  Central NY was well represented 
in the mens fields.  Very few women came out to 
race yesterday.
The race course was rather wet and slick, with 
lots of grassy straight aways that slowly 
descended into a bowl that had two steep runnups. 
The first runnup entered a boggy goopy loop that 
was almost unridable and riders had the dilema of 
either dismounting and running or grinding it out 
with the pedals.  It then descended on loose 
gravel back to the bowl where riders had to leap a 
double set of barriers and run up another steep 
slope back to the grassy straight  aways.
The mens elite race was very exciting to watch 
with a number of riders from the Central NY 
fighting for a little cash and the honor of being 
called NYS champion.  Dan Timmerman, Cory Burns, 
Pierre R.,Matt Dickenson, and Jeremy Gardner were 
all part of a field of about 12 riders duking it 
out.  The drunken spectating crowd complete with 
cow bells positioned  itself at the runnups  where 
mud spattered riders were expected to give it 
there all.  It turned out that Cory Burns was on 
fire yesterday and was without a doubt the man of 
the hour.  He developed a small lead in the first 
lap and was abe to out run all of the others up 
the steep slopes.  In the end he beat Dan 
Timmerman by well over a minute.
In the B mens race Matt Delissa was out to crush 
Nick Robertson in the first lap with Matt hanging 
with the lead riders.  Alas technical problems 
with an uncooperative chain left Matt at the back 
of the field and Nick slowly clawed his way to a 
third place finish.
In the masters field Karl Faruzel won the 45 to 55 
age bracket and was just starting a single speed 
race when I left. Full results from the Delmar
