Hello All...

Some of you may not be aware - but here's what the "Wildcat 'Crossing Fall
Festival & Cyclocross Race", on October 22nd, is all about. The event is
being promoted by SpokePost.com Cycling and it is part of the Central New
York Cyclocross Series. Some of you are familiar with the course. It winds
through the trails in the park, and it looks like we may even be able to get
the road between the park and Genesee Street closed for the event and use it
in the course - which would be excellent. I've been in contact with the
Camillus Town Supervisor about this and she seemed receptive as long as the
event benefits a non-profit organization, which it does (see next
paragraph). I'll be confirming this with her in the next couple days.

Proceeds from the event are going to benefit the West Genesee Middle School
Outdoor Club and the Sprockids Mountain Bike Club both run by Sue Bingham
(Tim Bingham's wife and William Nicholson's sister - both fellow cyclists).
West Genesee Middle School is about 2 blocks from the park that the race is
going to be held, as is Stonehedge Elementary School. Sue is a math teacher
at the Middle School. This is a perfect tie-in to the event and will benefit
the kids, expose the public to bicycle racing in a fun way, and provide a
great event for neighbors to attend. I'm planning to make it a yearly event
and build on the "outdoor" theme (with members of the club perhaps doing
demonstrations, etc) as well as a Halloween theme for the kids - we can only
do so much this first year with limited budget and time, but the potential
for the community here is huge. What it boils down to is that it's all about
the kids. Incidentally, there will be a cyclocross race going on that day...

Mary Ann Coogan, the Camillus Town Supervisor, will be on hand to be the
official starter for the Open Men's race at 1pm. We're also working on
getting the middle school principal, Earl Sanderson, to be the official
starter for the kids races. Having prominent people from the community
involved is certainly a good thing and can only help the success of the
event. All kids participating in the races will receive a ribbon for
participating.

William Nicholson will be taking care of the sound system setup and
coordinating the entertainment (music, etc). William and Chuck Dominick will
be MC's throughout the day announcing the races and helping keep things
organized.

We will have pumpkins and corn stalks throughout the event venue from "The
Hollow" up on Seneca Turnpike. The pumpkins will be sold as an additional
fund-raiser for the kids organizations along with their bake sales. They
will also be used to decorate the venue "theme" as well.

Being that this is the first year and I sort of threw all of this together
at the last minute, it will be what it is, but the idea here is to make sure
that it CAN continue as a yearly festival that will benefit the children's
organizations I mentioned previously. These organizations both promote a
healthy lifestyle and help build leadership skills.

I am currently seeking sponsors for the event - if anyone knows of a company
that may be interested, please contact me at (315) 416-8078 and I can
forward our sponsorship package to them and speak with them directly. Again,
all proceeds above and beyond operating expenses go to the not-for-profit
West Genesee Middle School Outdoor Club and Sprockids Mountain Bike Clubs.

Anyone interested in volunteering should shoot me an email and let me know
that you'll be there to help - much appreciated!

Hope to see all of you there, with your children, for a fun day at Camillus
Park on October 22nd.

Thank you for your support!

Regards,
