The Leonards are at it again--they have organized yet another trail work party for October 29. Details follow. If you use Hammond Hill trails for skiing or biking, please try to help out.

The Friends Of Hammond Hill have once again scheduled a trail maintenance work day on Hammond Hill. This year's work party will be on Sunday October 29, from 10 am until about 3 pm (as work crews finish up) with a break for lunch out on the trail. Please bring your own food and drink.
Volunteers will meet at Charlie and Ann Leonard's house on Hammond Hill (same location as last year) for maps of area assignments/job distribution. We will work in multiple crews as we did last year. Feel free to park in the Leonard's driveway, or if you prefer, in the municipal lot at the crest of Hammond Hill opposite the sign-in kiosk, and walk over.
The remaining donated funds from two years ago will be buying a load of mixed gravel (2's and under) and/or possibly a fine crushed rock "driveway topper" material to repair trails washed out from April's storm. Besides filling in washouts, we will top the trail in the gully where we used crushed stone last year. The crushed stone did not perform as advertised, remaining loose instead of packing down, and hence is a not so nice surface for mountain bikes or skis with thin snow cover. We'll try to rectify that problem this year.
Tools needed: rock rakes, hoes, pickaxes, shovels, (Ann has two wheelbarrows if we end up needing those) weed wackers, hedge pruners, pruning nippers. Only one chain saw (with trained sawyer) needed this year. There are very few downed trees, if any, that need clearing. We will be primarily cleaning out waterbars and the occasional ditch, and cutting back underbrush as well as repairing washouts this year. Please email Ann with any areas you have noted need attention as she will be making up work crews' "to do" maps.
Post work, we will all gather back at Ann and Charlie's for dessert. Those who like to bake, please bring some goodies of your choice. Those who don't like baking, ice cream (to go with apple and pumpkin pie Ann and Charlie will make) and cider would be most appreciated.
Important!! Please, everyone needs to sign the volunteer form for the DEC so that you are covered by their insurance. There will be a form at Ann and Charlie's to sign before you head out into the woods.
Hope to see you all there!
