FLCC> 'Cross work session

Sunday morning Don Fitterer and I took a couple of trips out to the
Freeville highway department where we filled Vector's BAT (Big Ass Truck)
with wood chips. It started to rain just before we unloaded it the second
time. This could get ugly if we tried to do trail work in the rain and mud.
Oh well, the race is next Sunday, so there's really no other weekend day to
get the job done...
Never fear....Some of you may recall seeing a posting last week that our
long lost Prez, (weatherman) Dave Ruppert was going to come out for the
work session Sunday at 2:00. At a few minutes past 2:00 the sun was shining
and a virtual caravan of vehicles poured in my driveway, with the heart and
soul of the FLCC (most of the people who do 99% of the work for club
events) emerging ready to take on any and all jobs. We split up into work
crews and took to the woods cutting drainage, removing offending roots,
filling holes with tons of rocks, spreading dirt and sod over rocks and
smoothing it all out with layers of wood chips, and basically making next
weekend's 'Cross course smooth and beautiful. (For those who frequent the
Swandrome for skiing in the winter, the effects will be notable too.)
Many thanks to Don & Sandy, Steve, Mark & Amanda, LiLynn, Hobit, Jim,Tim,
Jack and Dave, and Marcia (who wielded a mean rake and still managed to
feed and caffeinate everyone). If I missed anyone in that list, please
forgive me - there were a lot of workers. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you !

The race is next Sunday. It's a perfect opportunity to try 'Cross, being
close to home, a rather easy, flat course, with food and facilities
provided. Steve Edgar has put a lot of time and effort into making this
event happen for the club. I hope many of the club members will take this
opportunity to come out and play. It's a nice venue for spectators as well,
as you can see much of the course from several locations while enjoying a
walk around the trails surrounded by fall foliage. An added bonus is that
race day is also the final day of our Swan Cycles fall sale.

Don't forget, Tuesday night is weekly 'Cross practice. People start
showing up around 5:30 and some are still going at 7:00 as it gets dark. If
you are going to ride home after practice, please have lights/reflectors
with you.

C'mon out and play !

Glenn
