CWTI and ITCTC to Host Lecture on "Trail Success Stories in the Northeast"

Craig Della Penna at his B&B, the Sugar Maple Inn, located on the Ryan
Bikeway in Northampton, MA.

On Monday, April 16 at 12 noon, Craig Della Penna will present a lecture in
Ithaca at the Tompkins County Public Library's Borg Warner. Bring your
lunch for an informative and inspiring presentation on Multi-Trail Success
Stories in the Northeast. Craig is the Executive Director for Northeast
Greenway Solutions, a small consulting firm that brings cogent solutions to
questions surrounding trail development. NEGS also produces a monthly HTML
newsletter that goes out directly to over 10,000 advocates and decision
makers in 12 states. Craig is the author of four books and numerous op-ed
pieces/guest editorials on the value of smart growth development and
rail-trails. In 2002, in their 10th anniversary issue, THE RIDE MAGAZINE
named him as the most effective advocate for bike and rail-to-trail issues
on the eastern seaboard.

Craig is also a professional REALTORR working for The Murphys Realtors, Inc.
in Northampton, Massachusetts. In 2005-his first full year as a realtor-he
sold $9.9 million-making him the 2nd top agent at the firm. Two-thirds of
that activity was in his niche-next to or near to rail trails and other
greenways. Recently his unique practice was featured in a story in the
National Association of Realtors Magazine and seen by 1.3 million readers
across the United States. See http://www.craigdp.com
<http://www.craigdp.com/> . Along with his wife Kathleen, he also operates
Sugar Maple Trailside Inn, a bed & breakfast located in a carefully
restored, 1865 farm house in the village of Florence. The house sits eight
[8] feet away from southern New England's first municipally built/operated
rail trail, the Ryan Bikeway in the City of Northampton. This award-winning
restoration was featured on HGTV's Restore America and on Boston Channel 5's
show, Chronicle. Their B&B was recognized in Yankee Magazine's 70th
Anniversary Issue on "The Best of New England" and it was featured in a four
page article in B&B America-a glossy national travel magazine specializing
in the B&B industry. It is also regularly voted "Best in the Valley" in the
Valley Advocate's annual reader's poll.

This presentation is free and open to the public. Bring your lunch. It is
brought to you by the Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative and the Ithaca
Tompkins County Transportation Council.

Chamber Benefit Concert Raises over $3,500 for the Waterfront Trail

The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce Foundation held a special Beatles
tribute concert at Castaways on Friday, March 23rd. The evening was a
smashing success as over 350 people attended and over $3,500 was raised for
The Cayuga Waterfront Trail! Some of the performers that donated their time
and talent for this event include: Hubcap, Plastic Nebraska, Joe Crookston,
Five 2, Jamie Notarthomas, Mary Lorson & St. Low, Cypher: Dissident, and
Larry Stamatel. The Chamber believes that the trail is good for local
business, stimulates tourism, enhances greater public use of public areas,
has high aesthetic appeal, and increases the overall quality of life in the
community. The concert was sponsored in part by Goodrich Ithaco Space
Systems, Money with a Mission, Maxie's Supper Club, The Ithaca Beer Company,
I-100 FM Radio, Cobp Design, ComDoc and 93.5 WVBR FM Radio.

Community Arts Partnership & CWTI to Conduct Design Workshop

The Community Arts Partnership (CAP), the arts council for Tompkins County,
and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative are co-sponsoring a design
workshop. Many environmental artists and sculptors, along with
representatives of the architecture, landscape architecture and engineering
professions in Tompkins County have been invited to participate in an
afternoon design charette on Thursday, April 19 at the Chamber of Commerce
Conference Room to provide their input on how good environmental design and
the arts can enhance the Phase 3 trail corridor for users. Landscape
Architect Paula Horrigan and Architect/Trail Designer Jeff Olson will help
Rick Manning to facilitate the charette and provide examples of comparable
projects undertaken in other cities.

If you are interested in participating in the design charette or have other
questions or comments about the project, contact Rick Manning at 592-4647 or
rmannin4 at twcny.rr.com.
