But don't people in the midwest also use terms that would be 
unfamiliar to a transplant from the NE?  Words such as

boodlebag

youbetcha

brat

flickertail or grinnie

Us Ivy-Leaguers wouldn't even know if we were "searchin' for a brat 
in our boodlebag and hit a grinnie" that that's what we were 
doing.  However, we'd know from our subsequent raconteuring about our 
feckless misadventure, that we would not have succumbed to 
cyanobacteriosis when hitting the grinnie, and that it's trajectory 
would have been on the hypotenuse to the vector we were moving along 
when the change in momentum occurred.
