Well, I didn't make it through the whole article, but this might explain the
recently observed phenomenon (there it is again!) of the plethora of
multi-syllabic words being enunciated by the practitioners of extended
conveyance via bicycles, for example, on the FLCC Sunday rides. This, of
course, assumes that use of big words is indicative of brain power.
Ernie must be riding a lot lately--just last night I heard him say
"permutation."
The scary thing is the vicious cycle nature of it--the more one rides, the
bigger the words get--then you have to ride enough to have the chance to use
all those words....

It makes our brains grow, and hence us smarter. See NY Times article:

(I knew this before anyone told me about it. But then, I ride my
bike a lot.)
Interestingly it looks like some cheap thrills like pot, a bit of
booze, chocolate, and sex (masquerading under "sociability") can have
similar effects. Too much of the work ethic -- too hard or for bad
bosses equals stress -- undoubtedly makes you stupider.
