As long as reports are coming in about other popular skiing destinations in
the area, I'll add another...
Sunday morning we had a few inches of pure sugar snow which groomed nicely
for skating. Most of the wet or thin spots from Saturday were covered
nicely. Later in the day we added a few inches of light powdery snow and
the wind started to blow. By this morning (Monday) the trails were covered
over with blown powder. Dan Karig is planning to groom at least the
classical trails this morning. The process of grooming is somewhat
addictive, so it won't surprise me if I get back to the Swandrome and find
that he has done the skate tracks too...but I'm not promising anything.
Monday night is a snowshoe outing at 5:00 at the bike shop, so I probably
won't freshen up the skate trails after work, but I expect that they will
be polished up for Tuesday.
In past years Monday has been snowshoeing, Tuesday has been a Hammond Hill
outing, and Wednesday has been Swandrome group-skiing. Thursdays often
include night outings at Connecticut Hill. There have also been times when
Thursdays have been small races at the Swandrome too. Perhaps we should
encourage people to weigh in with their schedules and preferences in order
to try to make activities happen in a way that as many people can enjoy
them as possible. If we know that there are activities going on it makes it
easier to get up the gumption to get our butts out the door and get some
exercise and stay in touch with others during this darker, colder season.
