Good news ! The snowmobile is back. After much time ferrying it back and
forth to Cortland, it was discovered that the primary problem was overheating
from a broken fan belt buried inside the engine compartment. We have our vital
mechanical workhorse back in action. I spent a bunch of time this weekend
packing and then grooming the deep snow on the trails, finishing up on Sunday
with some lovely corduroy on the skate trails, and then finally getting to
test out the new classical groomer sled on the trails of the parallel universe.
A handful of people have already enjoyed the return of good conditions Sunday.
It will be interesting to hear the stories of those who traveled to the
Empire State Games in Lake Placid, and those who went to Wisconsin for the
American Birkie (which is rumored to have been canceled for lack of snow, just
before the storm hit the midwest....talk about perverse luck !) Perhaps we'll
hear those tales on Wednesday night. The weather forecast appears
cooperative, and I intend to have the trails "buffed" for the weekly event. It's almost
March, so although there will no doubt be a good bit of skiing yet to come,
the weather will be less dependable as the weeks pass. There is an urgency to
play while the conditions are still good. Plan to come out and play!
Repairs to the snowmobile were not horrendous, but the repair guys still
don't work for free. Since Dan Karig has made it available to us for so
long, and so many of us have benefited from it, I hope that we will be able to
contribute toward the "tool and fuel fund". Look for the black mailbox on a
post near the tractor barn (next to where everyone parks) and toss in a dollar
or two each week. Thanks !
