FLCC> Tuesday races

Let me tell you about the Tuesday night race rides in Asheville. They are
decent but no Ithaca Tuesday night, that's for sure. The course is the same
every week......totally flat with 2 sprints out, turn around, one sprint
back and then finish on top of a hill that is not much steeper than the run
in to Ringwood. The ride has a very uncommon characteristic though. The
entire group rotates, or at least the majority does, which is rare. The
whole group pulls through right up to the sprint and the guys that sprint
are usually the ones who randomly were rotated to the front to do a pull.
Those who are put on the front right before the sprint due to the rotation
just have to pull through and that's that. It's like there's some weird
force on this ride whispering "pull through". It's much more normal to see a
group noodling along with everyone sitting on waiting for a sprint. Problem
is, this constant rotation is almost as complacent. Riders just go through
and off and there is not much attacking. Part of it is due to course. It's
very hard to get away from a group that's rotating on a dead flat course. I
continue to try though. It makes it very interesting for me. To keep trying
to see if I can find some place that it will work.

Anyway, it was good to be back home for a Ithaca Tuesday night a couple
weeks ago. I miss em, so let's here those race reports.

>What-no race reports? OK, here's one from the Bs. We had a fairly small
>group since guys like Marco, Twinkie, Dave Heck, George, and Mr. Taam tried
>their luck with the As. Don F. was MIA. We were joined by the resurfacing
>Don Anderson and the promoted Jason Van Staveren (did I spell it right,
>Jason?). Not much going on on White Church, except Don A. took a little
>flier and I bridged to him, but we came back pretty quickly. On the final
>stretch to Coddington, Jason blew by everybody on the left. I knew he was
>trying to hammer up the Codd. Hill as far as he could in front of everybody
>before he got swallowed (he told me this strategy when we drove to Whitney
>Point together). Alex S. went with him, but they were caught before the
>top. After the climb, there was a lead group of about 6 that I managed to
>latch onto. Nobody really drove the bus though, and others caught back on.
>Got to work on that. At the finish, I was a victim of my chronic
>disease-no
>top end speed-and I watched the field go by. Alex S. won it, but the poor

>The second race, which is often slower, was not this time, because those
>guys that went with the As the first race dropped back to the Bs. Again,
>not much on White Church. Twinkie claimed that I was getting ready to come
>across his wheel in the paceline and cause him serious bodily damage, but I
>was only trying to disrupt his signature kamikaze flyer move on White
>Church. It must have worked-he stayed with the field. had a little more
>trouble on Coddington hill this time and found myself with Marco and a
>little gap to make up to get back to the pack. Marco pulled me back to the

>that hill. Must be that first A race was a killer! Anyhow, thanks Mark.
>My disease flared up again at the finish, and I watched from near the back
>as Mr. Taam (sorry, I'm never sure if its Alex or Max) lit a well-timed
>rocket to win the race.
