Ron,
Adirondack Loj is fun. I'd suggest something quite a bit more out of the
way:

Camp at Putnam's Pond -- it's just south of NY 74 a couple miles west of
Ticonderoga. (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24492.html) If you can get a
canoe, it would really be a terrific place as you can paddle in to a
second lake. Hiking -- from that area you can hike back into the Pharaoh
Lake area fairly easily with lots of beautiful peaks and lakeside
pleasures. Biking -- head west on 74 to some exquisite loops through
North Hudson or Ironville up to Moriah. If you avoid coming back via the
uphill from Ticonderoga, there are counless beautiful rides. Historic
stuff at the forts at Ti and by the bridge to VT.

Another similar possibility: Camp at Lincoln Pond, just south of
Elizabethtown on County Route 7. Again, a canoe is a real plus, though
not necessary. There are hikes to the peaks from route 9N as well as
many others within short driving distance. Biking is superb south toward
Mineville, connecting to loops back toward Lake Champlain or the other
way toward Keene Valley; or north past Eilzabethtown to Lewis, Essex,
Westport and other loops.

Nice part of the world, that.
