Dear leisurely riders,

On each of the past three Sunday rides, there has been a slow and not
too long option for the leisure set. A small number of riders has joined
in this very enjoyable offering of the Finger Lakes Cycling Club. The
week before last, this option included a very pleasant stop at the diner
in Odessa for coffee and nourishment. Whenever it's available, this sort
of stop will doubtless become a traditional part of the leisure ride. On
each of those rides, we had time to look around, chat a bit, and still
cover quite a bit of ground through the spectacular landscapes of our
region.

It occurs to me that there are probably a lot of other cyclists around
Ithaca who have been waiting for a ride that doesn't leave them behind
in the first mile and that doesn't demand more energy than they have
available. Well, this is it. Really. There will be options identified
every Sunday for riders who don't want to do the full course at high
speed, and usually there will even be variations of the easier route to
choose from.

But, there can only be a leisurely rider group if you show up to
participate in it. So, please consider joining us. If you're uncertain
about its appropriateness, feel free to call me for more information --
607 592 0780, pretty much any time; or, join the "slow ride" on Thursday
evenings and see how it goes. The cycling is just too great in our
region to miss any opportunities.

If you come to the Owasco Lake ride this Sunday, I suggest bringing a
rain jacket and a shower cap to put over your helmet. There's predicted
"scattered" rain in the early part of the day. Riding in the rain can be
pleasant if it isn't cold and you don't have water dripping into your
eyes. I've found that the free shower caps in motels fit a helmet
perfectly and make a ride in the rain civilized.

Andrejs
