I don't like riding across these flesh- and bone-graters even when
dry, but will, with caution and much trepidation. Also, when it has
been raining hard for a long time, and I'm sure that I'm dealing only
with water, I will ride across them, though slowly and pre-programmed
to keep knees, elbows and hands tucked close in case of a fall.
In the morning, when there is possibly dew on them, I always walk or
straddle hobby horse style like Ernie. Same strategy in light rain
or at the start of a heavy shower, when dirt and oil mix with the
water and render lateral traction akin to that available when
attempting to ride on a newly greased ice rink.
