Also a big hand for Jack Rueckheim for risking a ride in a police car Friday night by breaking into the Ruppert Presidential compound to abscond with the race signs and safety equipment.

Well, it was about 10 PM on a dark and stormy night (it really was). I knew nobody was manning the Presidential Compound because phone calls went unanswered. I thought the worst that would happen to me would be a confrontation with the local constabulary if one of the President's neighbors caught me making multiple trips through the back yard to the out building and returning to my car with my arms full of traffic cones, flags, safety vests, and "Bike Race" plywood signs through the pouring rain with a flashlight in my teeth.

I didn't get caught by the cops.

I knew that there were several rabbits in residence at the compound (indeed, there is a rabbit facility at the SPCA called the Ruppert Rabbit Room), but I didn't know that some of these rabbits are trained as viscious attack rabbits. Actually, one of the rabbits was the one used to make the Monty Python flick "The Holy Graille." Although 30 years older now, this rabbit is intimidating. It explains the mangled shorts I was wearing at the race the next day.
