Everyone,
Tara asked me to remind you that this Sunday is the Strawberry
Festival Road Race in Owego! It is on one of the most beautiful courses
you'll ever find, with views of ~50 miles south into PA and north
towards Ithaca (if you are looking around. :-)
Start and staging is at the Hickories Park, just behind the
McDonald's in Owego off Rt. 17, Exit 65.

Strawberry Festival Classic Bicycle Road Race Race

Hickories Park, Owego, NY
The History: The Strawberry Festival is an annual celebration in
beautiful, historic Owego. Saturday is an all-day celebration with
exhibits, vendors, bands, and food (including lots of strawberries and
the famous southern tier “spiedies”). In the 1980s, the “Strawberry
Festival Road Race” was a favorite annual cycling event, popular for
it’s extremely beautiful and challenging route. For cyclists, the race
is back! For families, the town of Owego has abundant shops and
strawberries available to pass the time during the race!
The Races: The Road Race Course follows a very hilly circuit through
South Owego, NY. Staging and Start located at a Pavilion in Hickories
Park, along the Susquehanna River. Race leaves the park in a neutral
start through beautiful downtown Owego, crosses the river, turns right
onto Rt. 434 and then immediately left up Montrose Turnpike. Right onto
Valley Road, Right onto Waits Road, Left onto Van Hook Rd, Right onto
Sulphur Sprints Rd, and descend back to Rt. 434. Continue a 2nd and 3rd
laps by taking right up Montrose Turnpike. Finish for all fields is
approx. 1 mile up Montrose Turnpike. Feed zone located at Finish Line.
Recommended gearing 39x23. Each lap is approximately 17 miles with 2000’
of climbing.
Results count towards USCF upgrades and USCF National Rankings! A LAJORS
event for Juniors!
Registration: 8:00-9:45 at Hickories Park, Pavilion #2. All riders must
have valid USCF license or purchase a one-day license at event ($10).
Directions: Take Rt. 17 to Exit 65 (Rt. 17c/ Owego); follow signs to Rt.
17c-West .25 miles north, crossing over river and then bearing left. At
stop light proceed straight across Rt. 17c (past McDonald’s) into
Hickories Park.
Fee: On-line pre-registration only $13 ($10-juniors) plus bikereg fee by
ends noon 6/15/07. No refunds. $20 on-site. Make checks payable to
“Tioga Velo Club”.
Prizes: No cash prizes except for miscellaneous merchandise; food for
all racers.
Junior Gears: As of 2007, juniors are required to race with junior gears
in all races (rollout=26’). For more information on junior racing in the
