The C's decided to do only one lap, going up Ringwood and on to finish at
the observatory -- the same as the A's and B's but without the Hurd loop. On
midline, the group of about 12 formed a very cooperative circular paceline
and covered the distance at about 25-30 mph. After the stop sign, a rider in
a red jersey and a rider in yellow broke away on the small rise, gaining a
gap of a hundred feet or so. Several riders worked at the front of the group
to bring back the two, and the yellow rider fell back to the group. The
group slackened its pace, and the gap grew to more than 100 meters. A second
rider in red broke away after the second rise, but was reabsorbed before the
turn onto 79. The pace was slow on 79. After the turn onto Ellis Hollow, a
big rider with sideburns upped the pace, with two following. The guy in red
was nowhere to be seen -- either he had a bigger gap than I thought or he
turned off on 79. I was dangling off the back of a second group of riders
over the top of Ellis Hollow -- need to get back in shape. Two guys led the
second group behind the lead pack, and we caught them at the base of
Ringwood. I continued on Ellis Hollow Creek, as I was near kaput.
How did it end?
