Hi all FLCCers,
Hollenbecks Spring Classic Road Race was held yesterday. "El Prez"
pulled out all the stops to guarantee 5 days of great weather leading
up to the event (he is SO going to Hell at this point!), which meant
that racers were signing up in droves on BikeReg.com - we had 130
entries by Friday night. An additional 120 riders registered on the
day, giving us the biggest starting field ever - overall, 134 racers
actually raced. The sun shone brightly from early morning,
reflecting strongly off Don Fitterer's new Fuji Team Issue. A slight
breeze kept temps cool enough for perfect racing.
Registration ran smoothly. Data entry was slightly panicky, when I
realized the printer couldn't connect to my laptop. But Wayne G had,
horror-of-horrors, a gizmo called a pen and paper, so the top 20
results were posted just as fast as if we were printing them. There
were no casualties of note - on the race course. A scratch or two
for a couple of riders, but nothing requiring a hospital visit -
always a good result for bike race promoters.
The results have been submitted to USACycling, and will soon be
available on www.Flcycling.org
OK, here's the thank you's for all the folks who helped make the race
the success it was.
Jeff Poulin officiated - thanks Jeff. (and thanks to the other USCF
official, Ms Holm).
Glenn Swann directed racers at the line - thanks Glenn for getting
them out on time, and in an orderly fashion, and for all the other
tasks you performed before race day and on race day.
Marcia Swann organized a skeleton Corner Marshalling crew at the last
moment, when our sorority Marshalls failed to get out of bed (thanks
to Slope day, no doubt) - a big thank you to Marcia for taking care
of this so deftly that Tania and I didn't know a problem existed.
Tania Schusler ran the overall show - great job Tania.
Wayne Gottleib - for sitting in a car with me for 5 hrs entering data.
Ernie and Don posted signs and Ernie picked them up after the race -
thanks guys.
Registration Volunteers - too numerous to mention, but I'll try (and
I apologize if I forget somebody): Mariah F, Sandy F, LiLynn G,
Marcia S, Dave R, Sarah T. There may well have been one or two more
that I didn't even see. Thanks for making the registration flow so smoothly.
Finishline timers - Valerie, Jim and at least one other, along with a
USCF official whose name I failed to remember (sorry) - thanks for
the thankless task of trying to read numbers, times and finishing
order, and write it all down.
FingerLakes Shortwave Radio Club - provided around-the-course contact
and updates - thanks fellas.
Mark and Amanda brought the sustenance (Cookies etc) out - thanks
M&A. You know the riders come to race for the cookies!
Wheel vans and pace-cars - we had so many on the road this year, it
looked like a Mardi Gras Parade! Thanks all drivers and spotters for
keeping people safe and out of trouble.
And finally, Sara Barker, of course, who organized the whole shebang,
and then left the country with the cash (just kidding) - thanks Sara.
I've never seen instructions so detailed or complete. You made our
work relatively painless on the day.
I don't know who else I forgot. I apologize if I left anybody out
and thank you for helping with the various tasks. Sara will probably
send the appropriate kudos on my behalf.
Twinkieboy.
