My two cents about traffic situations in which not to be over-assertive, for
safety's sake:

-don't follow a car too closely; the car can decelerate or stop faster than
you can on a bike

-ride as though you expect people in cars to pull out in front of you,
because they often will- either because they don't see you, they assume that
you're going slower than you actually are, or they're just jerks.
