Sorry to send another music announcement, but lots of
my friends read this and many others probably wonder
if I sing better than I race.

C-report. A huge group (in the 70's) pulled out of
the bank on a beautiful day Tuesday. Because I wasn't
feeling myself (teaching woes) I chose to ride with
the C's. I had it in mind to just ride and relax, but
you know how that goes. 24 of us began. let's
see....Laurie Cuomo, Lilynn, Hobit, Dave Ruppert,
Amanda, James, about 4 others whom I knew by face and
many others whom I didn't know, but included a middle
school kid (GO GET EM!!!). The group began a slow
paceline down to coddington, but after about 1/2 mile
Dave and Amanda come flying by and the race was on.
The pace steadily climbed as the road tilted downward
toward Coddington. I maneuvered to the front so that
I could be the first up coddington and ramped up the
pace. A couple of people hung on, but I kept the
front position. I wasn't sure how the C's would do up
the rise, so I skedaddled up at a very fast clip.
Dave was on my wheel, but soon overtook me, so I
followed him up. I think we got a gap at this point.
I followed Dave for a short time, then stood up and
passed him to the top (this is the really interesting
part.. I increased my previous maximum heartrate of
179 to 183). We were joined by two others. A short
redshirt guy and a large redshirt guy. The 4 of us
pacelined all the way to the second incline (calling
it a hill would not be fair to Ringwood). At this
point we were being chased down by a group of about 7
led by.... You know who you are. They caught us at
the top of that second rise and we did a haphazard
paceline to the finish. At one point I lost contact
with the group and thought I was done for. But, for
some reason they just slowed down and I caught back
on. The pace quickened at the curve, but not nearly
as much as the B's would have. I felt I might have
some kick left. Dave was driving us at the front, so
I maneuvered behind him. Then sprinted around him for
the win. I think about 12 of us came in together.
The next go round I decided to burn myself up
coddington to see 1. How much of a gap I could get on
the feild (quite a bit, but only shortlived) and 2. if
I could get my heartrate even higher (no...only 174).
Next week, B's.
