Central New York cyclists,
I hope you'll join us for a special event next week:
Tuesday, May 29, 7:00 pm at the Running Company store on State Street
(by the corner of Geneva).
A Wild Ride -- Hellbiking, bushwacking, and packrafting the length of
the Alaska Range: A firsthand account and wild slideshow by Paul Adkins
The show is by Paul Adkins, an Ithacan for the past couple years who has
had some incredible adventures. He's going to be describing a trek along
the length of the Alaska Range with two other travelers. An account of
this trip was published in National Geographic Magazine (May 97). It
isn't bicycling the way most of us ever get to do it, so please come and
see the show, talk to Paul, and dream about a departure from the ordinary.
This event is being held to support awareness of the Black Diamond Trail
project. I know! The Alaska Range isn't at all like the Black Diamond
Trail; but it is cycling, it is outdoors, it is following a call not
only to adventure but to enjoyment of one's physical faculties -- and
these are things that the Black Diamond Trail can further on its own
small scale.
In any case, this slide show presentation is the product of the Black
Diamond Trail Enthusiasts' Network (BDTEN), a group that's trying to
increase awareness of the trail's potential and creating some political
pressure for the NY State authorities to get off the dime and build it.
We'll have some further information at the slide show.
Have a look at http://blackdiamondtrail.org for some more information
(historical, current, etc) and pictures of the trail as it is today.
Andrejs
