Hello cyclists!

This is a reminder to everyone that the Central Region Qualifier for the
Empire State Games Open Cycling Team will be held this Sunday, June 3.
The flier, with all the particulars regarding the qualifier, is attached
to this email. (It is also pasted to the bottom of this email for those
of you on lists that do not allow attachments. Please excuse the poor
formatting.) You must live in one of the counties listed on the flier.
College students who are living in these counties for the summer are
eligible to race for this region as well.

The Open Cycling Team is made up of ten men and three women. Top
finishers at the qualifiers will fill these spots. We also need several
alternates in both categories, as it is imperative that we compete with
a full roster. Even those who do not think that they qualified should
remain after the racing to fill out paperwork for alternates.

Empire State Games is a four day event for Open Cycling, and the
competitors must race in all four events. The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, July 25 -- arrive at campus, check in.
Thursday, July 26 -- 10 mile individual Time Trial
Friday, July 27 -- Road Race, approximately 80 miles for men and 50
miles for women. I am not sure of exact distances this year.
Saturday, July 28 -- Points Race (Criterium with interim sprints)
Sunday, July 29 -- Team Time Trial

There is no entry fee to race in the qualifier. However, anyone who
races the qualifier is expected to commit to racing at Empire State
Games if he/she qualifies. The Empire State Games will be held this
year in Westchester County. There is also no fee to race at Games, and
we will be housed and fed (breakfast and dinner) at a local college.
The only expenses to you will be your own transportation, lunch and
equipment. Car pooling is encouraged.

Last year, thanks to a very strong and consistent team, the Central
Region won the Silver Medal for the team performance. Join us this
Sunday and help us compile another strong and dedicated team.

Note: Please forward this email to anyone not listed in the groups
above. Could someone please forward this to FLCC's list and then let me
know that it has been done?

Thanks,
Margaret
