On *Monday, Nov. 26th at 7pm at the BJM Library*, *City of Ithaca
Transportation Engineers Tim Logue and Kent Johnson* will be meeting
with interested members of the BJM and West Hill communities to discuss
methods to research walking and biking safety issues around BJM and LACS
(downtown and West Hill).

A team of seniors from LACS are spearheading this research effort for
the purpose of applying for the Safe Routes to School Grant which could
fund up to $550,000 to promote walking and biking through education and
by funding the city to "assess and make improvements to the walking and
bicycling physical environment around schools. These include many
activities such as installing sidewalks or crosswalks, fixing hazardous
facilities, or slowing traffic near schools."

We have a great opportunity here to work with an enthusiastic team of
students for the purpose of discussing and evaluating the pedestrian
safety issues which we all face around our school and neighborhood.
*If LACS succeeds in obtaining this grant, the City of Ithaca would be
given funds (up to half a million dollars) to help address and remedy
the many traffic safety issues which impact BJM and lower West Hill.*

In order to research these issues, the LACS team has created two on-line
surveys. Or, you can also fill in one of the paper surveys available at
BJM and give it to Larry at the front desk.
