As part of my role-fulfillment of the obligations that go with the title
of "coach" of the Finger Lakes Cycling Club I offer numerous clinics and
seminars on topics ranging from bike fit and physiology to riding
techniques and racing strategy. Most clinics are scheduled in the spring
time in anticipation of the approaching riding season, but it is also
important to develop an understanding of what is involved in maintaining a
base of fitness and strength during the off-season so that you will be
ready to hit the ground running (er....riding) next spring. With this in
mind I am scheduling the annual fall seminar outlining the famous "3 S's
training system" which has served me so well for many years.
In the 3 S's training system participants will learn and practice numerous
individual and team exercises which contribute to full body conditioning
and help to focus on building the upper body mass and strength which some
of us tend to lose over the course of the summer road season. With good
upper body workouts we develop more power for climbing and sprinting, and
greater mass for holding our positions when the going gets a bit crowded
and dicey, as in a field sprint.
An added benefit that comes with attendance at the clinic is the
accumulation of valuable upgrade points for advancing categories in the UCSF.*
This clinic will only be offered once, and space is limited, so plan ahead
and save Saturday October 20th from 9:30 until a bit after
noon. Refreshments will be provided for all participants. (as well as
earplugs and gloves) I suggest you do not wear your best cycling clothes.
In fact I do not suggest cycling clothes at all. On the other hand I would
suggest that you plan to wear some sort of clothes...perhaps some that you
don't mind getting dirty...dogs and children are welcomed as long as they
can be counted on to stay safe and out of trouble while your attention is
focused on the clinic.
