FLCC> DEC sets meeting on Shindagin, Danby forest management plan Oct 25

 The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) wants to
hear public input on its Rapid Waters Unit Management Plan, which will guide
management of Shindagin Hollow and Danby state forests. The DEC has
scheduled an informational meeting at which residents may learn more about
the plan and share their ideas about it. It's 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at
the Candor High School auditorium.

Could be quite a lot of background information to absorb. There are download
links for 4 PDF files from John Clancy on the forum including the text from
this email. Please forward this link to your various lists for sharing with

"Please find attached the press release, basic facts/figures, and the
postcard notice sent to neighbors within +/- 1 mile of the unit.

As we discussed, the purpose of the upcoming meeting is gather information
from the public before a draft Rapid Waters Plan is written.  The format
will be more like an "open house" (not a formal public hearing).  Attendees
will be able to provide written comments, listen to a brief presentation on
unit management planning, and speak in person to DEC staff from the
divisions of Fish and Wildlife, Lands and Forests, and Mineral Resources. As
part of the planning process, a more formal meeting will take place (that
will give attendees the opportunity to speak on the record) when a draft is
available for public comment.  So... I would like to let everyone know that
we are early in the process, and that there are many opportunities to
provide comment.

For reference sake, I've also included a digital copy of the Tioga UMP (a
recent plan written by staff here in the Cortland office).
