The 3 S's training clinic was held yesterday at the Swandrome. Any fears
about the weather forecast were cleared up Friday night when the Prez
announced that he would be coming to help with the work. As promised, the
weather was absolutely fabulous. I almost feel guilty keeping some people
off their bikes on such a beautiful day, that may turn out to have been the
best bonus-day of the entire fall. ("almost feel guilty", not
quite.....) The turnout was amazing, with "the regulars" from the FLCC and
Tuesday nighters, and a remarkable turnout from the CU Nordic ski team. I'm
afraid I don't even know the names of everybody who showed ! But I am
grateful to each of you who gave of your time and energy, especially some
of whom are probably feeling a little stiff and sore today after running
chainsaws and swinging splitting axes, and dragging logs out of the woods.
It was the most efficient bunch we have ever had, with teams working at
every station ensuring a smooth flow of wood from log-length to stacked,
stove-sized pieces for about 3 hours. As far as I could tell, there was no
bloodletting, no organ donations or limb-removals. There are still the same
number of dogs we started out with, and we never even got the tractor stuck
in the woods ! You can't ask for much more than that.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Glenn
