big climb, stiff wind and a bunch of pro tour riders with doping programs
worth many times a typical domestic rider's yearly salary........that makes
for a race of major attrition. I personally made all the necessary splits,
only to be crashed on the climb, never to see the front group again. I
chased for a lap alone in no man's land and almost made it back but the race
was really on at that point and they weren't waiting for anyone. They were
chasing the break. I blew and dropped back to a group that eventually was
pulled before the circiuts and should have been given a time...but, at that
point, it doesn't matter really.

>What is the reason for so many DNFs at the US Road Race Championship?
>It appears that only 30 or so out of the 100 listed (which included Dan
>Timmerman) finished the race.
