I am sorry about your mishap David. Both Sandy and I hit that same hole
earlier in the year. It is not visible when the sun is in your eyes.

Just a heads up--
  There are, or at least were, a couple days ago som nasty holes and
boulders on the way down Hudson street where negligence of maintenance
makes the probability of a crash unacceptably high.  I was traveling
down the hill at a moderate clip (under 20 kph) and my front tire either
plunged into a huge hole, or possible hit a huge piece of road that had
come out a hole... I broke a collarbone and will be unable to do much of
anything for 6 weeks or so..
   So be careful if you ride down there, especially around the 500
block!
  And anybody that has any connections to the road maintenance
department of Ithaca, please tell the powers-that-be that the road is
very dangerous there!.
