FLCC> [Cookies] Tuesday night success! + kids biking?

Hey Don, I presume you mean having me around instead of Felix is good
for the rest of you because that will be less competition on hilly B
group races? ;)

Having my name mentioned was a motivation to join this list myself,
instead of hearing about it 2nd hand from my spouse. I was grateful for
Don's lesson plan, supported by assistant teacher Daniel, and riding
with other women for a change was a great pleasure, even though I think
each of them will kick my butt in sprints next week. But by August, I'll
have lost the rest of my pregnancy weight (All 55 pounds of it. As a
5'2" nutrition student, I love to shock my colleagues with that number),
and maybe you'll have to watch out. Or maybe not.

Speaking of obesity, I'm involved in a county project to prevent it in
childhood through community action and change. As we passed the rare but
wonderful sight of two kids on bikes Tuesday night, while I was enjoying
the casual but brilliant pedagogy of our biking mentors, I wondered what
this group is doing, or might like to do, to help making biking more
accessible to kids and families. If there is already some kind of action
group, or some of you might like to be part of one, please email me
(cp226 at cornell.edu) or call (272 7330) and we can connect. Maybe discuss
a bit 'offline' and then share our semi-organized thoughts over this
list? We'd need some leading/organizing (which this group doesn't seem
to be short of!) but also some people willing "just" to volunteer for
approaches we might dream up (e.g., connecting with the bike recycle
place to ride with/support recently equipped kids).

Cheers,
Christine
