For those of us who have propagated our genes (or those who like really
slow and really short rides), Hobit and I are proposing a family ride
this Sunday, 20 April, at 10am.
Unless it rains (or snows...) we'll meet on the East Hill Rec Way (EHRW)
at the parking area between the French Lavender shop and huge Cornell
facility of some sort on Mitchell Street, across from Cornell's
Maplewood Housing complex. This is a few blocks uphill from the primary
school, on your right.
We're thinking of three option levels:
a) beginners: up and down the flat part of EHRW for really little ones
on their own bikes or other beginners. For parents to run or ride along.
b) intermediate: a slow loop along EHRW, up Honness, through EH Plaza,
briefly on Pine to Maple, and back along EHRW (maybe the lower part of
EHRW too, depending on the group). Aside from road crossings, the only
road bit is on Pine for a short bit. (Felix and I plan to do this with
our 3-yr-old on tandem and baby in a trailer and maybe join group A
afterwards)
c) advanced: counting on organic leadership for someone to lead an
appropriate road loop with older kids, e.g., following group B to the
lower EHRW and going up Stevenson.
Please invite other families you know to join, and of course feel free
to replicate in another neighborhood!
Looking forward, our organizing hopes include:
1. FLCC family overnight trips
2. Other members starting neighborhood family rides (so families can
bike instead of drive, and to expand to non-FLCC families)
3. Having regular Belle Sherman (and other neighborhood) family rides
and inviting other families along, e.g., through the neighborhood
listservs, school newsletters, newspapers.
But let's see how this one goes.
