It was a warm and almost sunny morning for the first family group ride. An assorted contingent of tandems, bikes with baby seats, a trailer bike, trailer, 3 kids on "big kid bikes", a little one with training wheels, me on my mountain bike, and Paul Monkman pulling the SAG wagon mack daddy trailer set off from French Lavender just down the street from East Hill Plaza. We rode for about an hour doing a nice loopty loop down the rec trail, up Pine Tree, across the Plaza then out and back the other part of the trail from Maple to Game Farm. It was great to just ride easy and enjoy each others company; a good time was had by all. I was especially happy Jacob didn't manage to take anyone out with his swervy exuberance (we're working on learning to hold a line).

We've decided to alternate longer/faster rides with tandems, trailers, etc. with slower shorter ones where the kids can ride their own bikes. Next Sunday we'll be shlepping the kids for the longer/faster version so all you folk with tandems etc. come on out- Sunday at 10, should we meet at the bank or French Lavender?

We're also working on putting together a 4-5 day tour, probably the last week of July, maybe along the Erie canal? It will be geared towards kids but anyone who wants to get out and do some pedaling and camping is welcome. We were also talking about spending a couple of nights at one site so some of the adults can get in some more miles on a little day trip while the kids do a shorter out and back route or hang out in camp. So...let me know if you are interested in such an excursion.

  happy riding,
  Hobit
