Report from the bike-klutz who had the accident on the Thursday slow ride.
First, I want to thank all the folks who took care of me and made sure I
received medical care - especially Jill and Steve Powell, Phoebe, Eva and
Kathleen, and the nice guy who took care of my bike and made sure the EMT's
did their job - I forgot your name (Eva said she picked it up). And thanks
to Brenda for calling and checking on me and making sure all her sheep were
back.
It was the camel back tube that somehow got loose and tangled in the wheel
and I flipped the handlebars and took a chin-face-plant. Were I younger I
would have bounced, but being old here's the tally (probably TMI):
4 stitches in my chin
3 ribs broke
2 fractures of the mandible
1.5 teeth missing
1 small radial (arm) neck crack
Facial road rash and bruising (healing fast)
Injured pride - priceless.
I was ambulanced to Strong thursday night since CMC did not have an oral
surgeon available and they did a closed reduction of the mandible Friday and
I'll have a wired jaw for 4-6 weeks. I got home last night.
I have quickly figured out how to talk with my mouth wired shut and straws
are my friend.
Steve and Jill, thanks for the plant - very thoughtful of you! Craig says
it's a really nice one.
Enjoy the nice weather and keep cycling,
elly

Subject: FLCC> Thursday night accident
The accident on Thursday night was caused (I believe) by a hanging tube from
a camelback water holder. It fell into the front wheel and caused her to go
over the handlebars.
Thanks to Steve Powell for bringing lights so we could ride home in the
dark. Thanks to the people who drove back to pick up bikers or bicyclists.
Note for future: we need to bring a small thermal blanket that expands.
It was getting cold and the injured bicyclist could have used a blanket.
Jill Powell
