FLCC> Helmet matters

The other day I was riding along at a pretty good clip, thanks to some tailwind. While this was a good thing for my mojo, it was not so good for an unfortunate bird who happened to swoop into my line. My questions:

1) Given industry rhetoric about replacing helmets, would this sort of collision neccesitate replacement? There does not seem to be any visible cracks, compression of the foam, etc, but the impact was enough to stun me for a bit.
2) I have a couple older helmets that are definitely of dubious value. (Immobile rocks have a bit more wallop.) Does anyone know if/how I can recycle old, damaged helmets?
3) If there are any mystics in the crowd, should I be concerned about what omens this might portend? I am particularly concerned about the whole karma/wild pick-up driver scenario.

Thanks,
Joe
