Greetings from Egypt.
I only knew Todd through racing. My first real memory was Empire game many years ago when I first started racing in Ithaca. We were competing against each other in the Masters road race (~60 mi) south of Buffalo and I picked Todd as my target. I planned on staying behind his wheel. The first big hill proved that Todd was significantly stronger than I as he stuck with the lead pack and I drifted off into survival mode. A few miles later I saw Todd fixing a flat and asked him if he needed anything. "Nope. Got everything I need, thanks." Now my goal was to not let him catch me. I worked hard and it took Todd a little over half an hour ride up next to me. He wasn't breathing hard at all and he rode with me on the flat section for about 20 minutes. We traded a few stories with him doing most of the talking and me asking short questions as my breathing would allow. As we entered the hills Todd said nice talking to you and danced his bike up the incline. I vowed that one day I'd be able to do that.
We raced together for many years and I always enjoyed our competitions. I believe I only beat Todd once and I had to pay Rhino to run him off the road during the final sprint at Binghamton. I can say truly that Todd was one of the reasons I enjoyed racing my bike.
So Todd, when we ride together again I look forward to listening to more of your stories. You will be missed by me and others who ride at the back of the peleton.
Au revoir.
Don
