I was careless in using the term "careless" to describe Paul's kids on the
tandem in my previous email. Please don't take it as a slam on anyone, I
was being humorous but forgot the smiley face. I shared the photo cuz I
liked it and was fascinated by the kids.

In browsing through the May 2008 issue of "Adventure Cyclist", I got a kick
out of a picture in an article about the "Kidical Mass" family cycling event
in Eugene,OR. I found the picture online here:

It reminded me of Bill Erickson and his family biking the Erie Canal Ride in
2004 with their triple and double tandems (I should add that the Erickson
children were not so careless in their riding style). I have often told one
of my favorite stories from that 8 day trip: Its early morning on a grey
rainy day (yet another one) and I'm getting packed up and convincing myself
its ok to be wet, when I heard this little voice saying "noooo bike, noooo
bike". The Erickson's youngest(2 yo?) didn't want to ride in the trailer
out of the rain, but wanted to be strapped in the special middle seat on the
triple. They smiled and stuck her in the seat where she sat contented and
peddled on to the next stop. She was an inspiration to me that day.
