FLCC> Thursday Night Rides 5:45

Just a note to say that the official time of the Thursday night Slow 
Rides has been pushed later a bit to 5:45 pm. That might make it 
possible for some people to make it who previously couldn't. If anyone 
wants to join but is going to miss that time, please phone (592 0780) to 
let us know. If it isn't too long, we'll wait.

Attendance at these rides has been uncommonly good lately with at least 
a dozen riders each week. Unfortunately, all the zeal seems to have 
brought some forgetfulness about the purpose of the ride -- which is to 
provide a nice slow venue for people who can't or won't go fast, a place 
where they won't be pressured or disparaged. Last week -- not the first 
time, alas -- we dropped a rider utterly. I hope everyone on the ride 
will be conscious of what's going on near the back and adjust their own 
speed and the speed of others around them accordingly. A shout ahead to 
wait up is usually enough. If you have excess energy, use some of it to 
chat with other riders, maybe to ride back and see how they are doing.

I'll try to take all this advice myself, too. You can chew me out for 
being off the front last week; henceforth, I cleave to Jack's example 
and train my ambitions at the back of the pack.
