Bike to Work Day is May 16, two weeks from tomorrow.

Sure it's "too late" -- but, on the other hand, cyclists put together a 
ride in a couple hours when they really want to do it. So, maybe we 
could at least have a go at doing something symbolic -- just to have 
done *something*.  Maybe then we can hope to accomplish something 
actually meaningful in the next year.

I was thinking it would be great for lots of us to "ride to work" with 
the mayor, the heads of CU and IC, some school principals and 
dignitaries, and other major entities around Ithaca. We would come 
streaming down from each of the hills, swelling the streets around the 
Commons with two-wheel traffic, laughing and singing, ... Then, I 
thought maybe more achievable would be to try to pull together a short 
lunchtime ride with all those folks. Maybe ride from the Commons to 
Stewart Park and back. I know good organizing demands clear goals and 
such. But, really, it would just feel good to have a mere one-off ride 
as a tip of our hats to a national bike-oriented event.

It would even be worth going to a meeting for.
