Wayne,
I too am excited by this idea and the potential for some high
visibility for cycling. It could dramatically illustrate the
practicality of bike commuting in and around Ithaca. If each of us
who already commute by bike makes an effort to recruit several new
riders for May 16 then this could really snowball. We should push
this with our co-workers, spouses, and family members. Let's make
this a real grassroots effort.
I was planning to bike to DeWitt with my daughter and possibly 2 of
her friends, and we could meet up with you and Ron. We live off of
Snyder Hill Rd, and one idea would be to rendezvous at East Hill
Plaza. Maybe some other people have ideas for similar meeting points
for those who will be biking to other schools.
I also like the idea of a lunchtime ride downtown, and riding from
the Commons to Stewart Park makes a lot of sense -- we could
encourage everyone to bring their brown bag lunches to eat at the
park. That would make the ride more time efficient for those who
need to get back to work right after lunch, and also provide a nice
meeting point for all of the cyclists.
