Then I would imagine that you feel even more strongly about the grosser level of governmental supports and subsidies that artificially *suppress* the true price of gasoline in the west, and make it appear cheaper than its true cost. I don't dispute that as gasoline becomes more expensive to the consumer, less of it will be used... I think that logic is spot on. My point is simply that the effect of the NYS tax on gasoline prices at the pump is small when compared with the effect of federal subsidies of the oil industry.
