FLCC> helmets required for Bike to Work Day rides?

Some years ago here in Elmira we had a rider show up several times
for our Tuesday and Thursday rides without a helmet. He refused
offers to lend him one for the ride.

No one wanted to be the policeman and tell him we didn't want him
riding with us. Eventually someone got the bright idea of telling
him that if he crashed and smeared his brains on the pavement, we
weren't stopping for him; why should we undertake that potentially
nauseating chore, when he when he wasn't willing to take the little
bit of the trouble to don a helmet?

He never did get the helmet, but he did stop showing up for rides.
Too bad.

I'm only an interloper here. However, as one who exists only because my
bike helmet saved my life - I will not ride with anyone or in any group
with an individual who is helmetless! Sorry - I try to be tolerant
of many
viewpoints and ways of life - - but this ain't one of them!
